As part of the European initiative,
STEM Discovery Campaign 2024, EU-Track, in collaboration with the Post-Confirmation youth group and the Parish of San Domenico Savio of Terracina, organised an event dedicated to STEM for children!
Embarked on a captivating journey that blended the enchanting world of
Harry Potter with the realms of STEM. Catered to
14- 15-year-olds and
6-9-year-olds, this learning adventure offered a magical fusion of Hogwarts magic and hands-on technical exploration.
The older group, aged 14-15, delved into backstage preparations akin to the workings of the Wizarding World. They engaged in the guided development and fabrication of a Sorting Hat with a modern twist, utilizing the Arduino platform. They dived deep into coding, electronics, and craftsmanship to bring the Sorting Hat to life. Craft candle holders reminiscent of those found in the Great Hall, adding ambience to the magical atmosphere. They participated, as mentors or prefects, in captivating hands-on experiments inspired by the wonders of magic, from creating invisible ink to mastering colour mixing in milk and constructing DIY holograms.
The younger group, aged 6-9, immersed themselves in sorcery science guided by their older counterparts. Witness the magic of the Sorting Hat in action and delight in flickering candlelight from bespoke holders. They were engaged in age-appropriate versions of hands-on experiments, exploring mysteries of invisible ink, colourful milk mixing, and illusionary DIY holograms.
Together, they developed foundational skills in observation, critical thinking, and experimentation, all through the lens of magical science, by embarking on a journey where creativity meets curiosity, seamlessly intertwining the magic of Harry Potter with the marvels of STEM.
